What is the Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum?
The Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum is a complete,
phonics-based reading and language arts program that integrates social
studies, science, and technology. The program was designed to help children
see themselves as successful learners. Motivation is the underlying objective
of each component of the curriculum. |

What
makes the Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum different from other reading/language
arts programs?
At Starfall we believe that children learn best when
instruction connects with what they already know, and then expands that
knowledge through new and meaningful experiences. The Starfall Kindergarten
Curriculum is formulated to preview skills, then to formally introduce
them, and finally, to create opportunities for the child to apply, integrate,
practice, and extend these skills.
Starfall integrates content area instruction in Social
Studies and Science, enabling children to flourish in a substantive environment
of real world information.
Backpack Bear, the program mascot, is at the heart of
the print and online materials. He and the other Starfall characters
become familiar and constant friends who motivate the child to grow and
explore in a print-rich, child-centered environment. |

If this program was designed for a classroom setting, can it be adapted for homeschool use?
The lesson plans provide a systematic, sequential approach to introducing
and practicing skills, supported by practice materials, visual hands-on
materials, games and a new coordinated subscription-based website,
more.Starfall.
While the language of the lesson plans is geared to a typical classroom
setting, the activities can be easily adapted to your home setting.
Some of our users involve other family members, or get together with
other homeschoolers, to incorporate some of the techniques and activities
suggested for small groups. |

This is a new program. How do I know it works?
The Starfall Kindergarten Curriculum has been piloted
and tested by experienced teachers for the past four years. Feedback
provided by these teachers has greatly enhanced and improved the program.
Teachers using the curriculum report that their children are reading
beyond grade level and have become successful independent learners. |

What is the technology component?
More.Starfall.com is a new subscription-based website.
It features all of the material from our free website, Starfall.com,
as well as new activities that correlate to the curriculum. More.Starfall.com

Do you provide progress monitoring or assessments?
Yes! The lesson plans include an individual entry, mid-year,
and post assessment. Additionally individual assessments are administered
every two weeks, providing a clear indication of the skills your child
has mastered and those skills that need to be revisited. |

Do I NEED TO PURCHASE
THE ENTIRE CURRICULUM To TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE STARFALL PROGRAM FOR MY
KINDERGARTEN-AGED CHILD?
While you are under no obligation to purchase every
item, we recommend doing so. In developing the program, Starfall carefully
produced only materials that are regularly and repeatedly used, including
the materials and resources for social studies and science. The order
